The 13th APTE 2024 was held from 8 to 10 July 2024 in Singapore. The event was organised by the Centre for Transportation Research at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, College of Design and Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and co-organized by the NUS Environmental Research Institute and the Energy Studies Institute at NUS. The event is also supported by the Pavement Engineering Society (Singapore), the Asian Pavement Engineering Society (APES) and the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES).
The 3-days conference was held at the Engineering Auditorium in NUS. There were 205 participants from 18 countries and regions including China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and U.S.A.
The welcome addresses were delivered by Associate Professor Raymond Ong (conference co-chair) and Professor Fwa Tien Fang (President of the Pavement Engineering Society).
There were three keynote lectures presented on the first day of the conference, namely,
- “Towards a Net-Zero Flexible Pavements” by Professor Imad Al-Qadi, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
- “Bilevel optimization of the housing allocation and traffic emission problem in a dynamic continuum transportation system” by Professor S. C. Wong, The University of Hong Kong
- “Concept of Pavement Skid Resistance State – A Unified Approach for Harmonization of Skid Resistance Measurements” by Professor Fwa Tien Fang, Chang’an University & National University of Singapore.
And two keynote lectures were presented on the second day of the conference, namely,
- “Towards Sustainable and Resilient Transport Infrastructures” by Professor Hao Wang, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
- “Singapore’s Integrated Planning Framework in Using LUTi Models for Informed Decision-Making” by Dr. Litian Xie, Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore.
A total of 120 papers were presented at the 3-day conference. There were 12 different topics which include:

The conference banquet dinner was held on the second day evening at NUSS Guild House. There were six papers which were selected for the “Best Paper Award”, namely,
- “Impact of Urban Air Mobility on Urban Commuting and Traffic Congestion: A Case Study of Shenzhen” by Di Lv, Kai Wang, Wet Zhang and Xiaobo Qu
- “Determining the Optimal Fare of a Public Transport Monthly Pass Package: The Taipei 1280 Case Study” by Guan-Ying Chen and Shou-Ren Hu
- “Exploring Relationship between Perceived Risk and Risky Driving Behavior of Motorcyclists in Bangkok, Thailand” by Chutaporn Amrapala and Kasem Choocharukul
- “Attention Disturbance Analysis of Standalone Road Landscape Based on Eye Movement Understanding” by Ziyu Zhang, Shuyan Chen, Yongfeng Ma, Guanyang Xing and Junjie Zhang
- “Beneficial Use of Carbon Black on the Performance of Recycled Plastic Modified Bitumen” by Aye Nandar Win Maung, Guo Wei Tiah, Yang Pin Kelvin Lee and Nyok Yong Ho
- “An Approach to Improve Screening Efficiency for Pollution Checks by Prioritization of Polluting Vehicle Fleets in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area” by Kaustubh Saysardar and Bhargab Maitra
The conference proceedings will be published in the Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering by Springer and selected top papers will be published at the Multimodel Transportation Journal.
The 13th APTE 2024 was successfully organized and we hope to meet again in the next APTE.
